'Love your neighbour as yourself.' Luke 10:27
3-12-25
Dear Parents and Carers,
Yesterday we celebrated our toy service at the start of Advent. Our School Ambassadors led the service and helped us think about how we prepare for Christmas. Houses, homes and classes are decorated but the Ambassadors asked the question how do we prepare ourselves for Christmas? Simply put we also encourage children to share gifts and be kind to each other. The toys we have collected will go to the Charles Thompson Mission.
Claire House – Christmas Hat Day – 4-12-25 Tomorrow is Christmas Hat Day where children are invited to wear a funny hat to raise funds for Claire House (Link on website). The children loved seeing Claire Bear visit them in assembly. All of our charitable giving at Christmas helps to bring cheer to homes and remind our neighbours that they are not forgotten.
Junior Travel Ambassadors – parking, speeding and signage.
Last week, the Year 5 Junior Travel Ambassador's (JTAs) took part in a parking and speed monitoring session around school to check that families are parking considerately for our neighbours and in safe spaces. We are pleased to report that most people parked safely however, we did notice a few cars stopping on double yellow lines and blocking pavement access. To help promote safer parking habits, we will soon be launching a poster competition across the school. Thank you to the JTAs for helping to keep our school safe.
This week the travel ambassadors have been busy completing their annual review around school. The children observed how we have a lack of clear signage around school to indicate St. Bridget’s exists. Furthermore, the yellow lineage is unclear, and we do not have a pedestrian crossing. This is being feedback to the council so hopefully we will see improvement around school in the future. Many thanks to the children for their passion and commitment.
PTA updates
Thank you to the PTA who have kindly shared a Christmas events calendar. This has been emailed and is on the front our website should you need to check a time of an event. (Link on website). As always thank you for the support the PTA provides the school through time, energy and supporting events. This year, has been very successful and the children have benefited enormously from all of the contributions from the PTA.
OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning)
Recently we sent a letter home with the children asking for donations for our OPAL play. This is our exciting new project where we encourage children to play using lots of different equipment with the expectation that it will improve lunchtimes for all of the school. We are one of a few local schools that are developing OPAL play which has won a number of awards across Europe. More information on the website (Link on website).
Parent Workshop – Helping your child thrive – St. Bridget’s School -10-12-25 @9.15am Following on from our first parent workshop last week we are holding another workshop for parents in which we will be discussing how you build your child’s resilience and how you can support your child’s mental health. (Link on website) Smart Phone Free Childhood – Parent Talk – Wednesday 4 Feb 2026 – St. George’s Primary Parenting in the digital age has never been more complex, with issues surrounding screen time, social media use, and gaming. Many parents are concerned about their children’s mental health, especially the impact of screens on it. In this interactive talk, Dr Victoria Joesbury unpacks some of the complex issues surrounding smartphone use and, in a non-judgmental manner, aims to help you find solutions that work for your family.
