Year 4 Curriculum Overview (Spring Term)
In the Spring Term, we are looking at Social Justice, with regard to Refugees, and STEAM. We will be reading Wisp, which allows the children to explore the feelings and emotions of a Refugee child and this will drive our Literacy work in the first half term, whilst STEAM leads us through the second.
In our History, we will be looking at the Maya civilisation, exploring what life was like for them. This includes how we know about the civilisation, the rich and poor and how they grew to be a successful empire.
Music will be led by Musical Minds, who will be teaching the children about notation, rhythm, pitch and performance.
In the second part of our term, the children will have the opportunity to explore their emotions through work with Flourish! This helps them to build an emotional understanding and resilience. We will also be doing a full week of swimming to develop water confidence and safety.
During Geography lessons in this term, we will be learning about transport and trade within the UK.
Across the term, the children will learn about electricity in Science and DT, which will promote a global goal.
We will be reading Revolting Rhymes and Cloud Busting, allowing the children to explore a wide range of poetry.
