The document headed 'Calculations Policy' breaks down for each year methods that are taught in the school. The document headed MNP Calculation Policy aligns with the Calculation Policy and shows the progression in calculation used in our textbook based approach to teaching for mastery.
These can be a useful aid for parents helping their children at home.
Here you will find a number of documents to help you understand the progression and sequence of teaching in maths. We use the vehicle of Maths No Problem alongside NCETM resources to support our delivery of a mastery curriculum for maths.
The progression maps will help you to see where key concepts are met on a child's journey through the school and the schemes of work outline how the maths curriculum is mapped out during the year. These schemes are a suggested overview and are adapted as needed by teachers based on their knowledge of the children.

Mastering Number EYFS and KS1
Mastering Number is a project developed by the NCETM to support the development of fluency in number. We use this project alongside our teaching for mastery approach.
'This project aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.' NCETM
Mastering Number KS2
Knowledge of multiplication and division and its applications forms the single most important aspect of the KS2 curriculum, and is the gateway to success at secondary school. This project enables pupils in Years 4 and 5 to develop fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number that exemplifies good number sense. (NCETM)
We are excited to have been one of the first schools taking part in the NCETM Mastering Number at Key Stage 2. This will support our continued work in developing automaticity in multiplicative reasoning.
