What is a School of Sanctuary?
A School of Sanctuary is a school that has received a Sanctuary Award from City of Sanctuary UK or a partner organisation in recognition of its good practice in fostering a culture of welcome, belonging and solidarity for those seeking safety.
As part of the curriculum at St Bridget’s we have been learning about refugees and asylum seekers. All children have a good age appropriate understanding and show empathy towards those seeking sanctuary. It has been wonderful to see their passion in helping those in need and listening to their amazing ideas about how they can help. The children have produced some fabulous work which was used towards gaining the School of Sanctuary accreditation. It has also helped our school to host refugees and support them effectively as we live out our mission of loving our neighbour.
