19-1-26 Dear Parents and Carers,
Collective Worship: Learning to Shine with Reverend Alex
This week, Key Stage 1 enjoyed a thoughtful Collective Worship led by Reverend Alex. We explored what it means to follow the teachings of Jesus and how our actions can make a positive difference in the world. The children did a fantastic job identifying the values Jesus taught, focusing on kindness, generosity, and respect. We talked about how Jesus wasn't afraid to speak out against things that were hurtful, and how he always encouraged people to mend friendships when things went wrong. Reverend Alex challenged all of us to be "Shiny People" by reflecting these positive values in our daily lives.
The "Shining" Challenge
Reverend Alex gave the children a list of behaviours to sort through. Why not try this at home? Can you spot which behaviours help us "shine" and which do not?

Top 500 UK Schools
We are pleased to share some good news with our school community! We have officially been named one of the top 500 schools in the UK by the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026. This national recognition is a testament to the incredible hard work of our pupils, the dedication of our talented staff, and the unwavering support you provide at home. Being ranked among the highest-achieving schools in the country highlights not only our academic standards but also the vibrant, nurturing environment we have built together. This is a shared success for everyone in our school family—thank you for helping us make our school such an exceptional place to learn and grow!
Attendance Update: Supporting Every Child’s Learning Journey
As we move further into the school year, we want to thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring your children arrive at school on time and ready to learn. Regular attendance is a key part of our "No Child Left Behind" mission, as it builds the foundation for both academic success and emotional wellbeing.
Understanding "Exceptional Circumstances"
We often receive questions regarding term-time absences. While the Headteacher has the discretion to authorise leave, this can only be done in exceptional circumstances. Please note that the Department for Education (DfE) does not generally consider holidays, leisure trips, or recreation to be exceptional. If you do need to request leave, it must be done in advance with a clear explanation of the unique circumstances.
Why Every Day Counts
We want to share a few reasons why we prioritise consistent attendance:
• Maximising Learning: There are 175 days each year when school is not in session—plenty of time for rest and family trips! Missing just one week of school every year adds up to a full term of lost learning by the time a child leaves secondary school.
• Supporting Our Teachers: When children miss school, teachers work hard to help them catch up. However, this inevitably diverts time away from the rest of the class.
• Wellbeing and Routine: For many children, especially those who are neurodiverse, the routine of school provides safety and stability. A break in this routine for travel can often be unsettling, making it harder for them to transition back into learning upon their return.
• Mental Health: Being part of the school community every day helps children build strong friendships and social confidence, which is vital for their mental health.
Inclusion and Support
The DfE is clear that the ambition for attendance should be the same for every child, including those with SEND or long-term health conditions. We recognise that some pupils face more complex barriers to getting into school, and we are committed to providing the additional support needed to help them access their right to a full-time education.
Did you know? The Supreme Court defines "regular attendance" as attending every single day that the school is open. We are here to work with you. If you are experiencing challenges with your child’s attendance, please come and speak to us so we can find a way forward together.
Opal play video
We continue to develop our expertise and resources for Opal Play at lunchtimes. Here is a link to a video that shows that type of play we are looking to develop with our children. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXxgxygdFWo
Is your child the next Ben Stokes or Nat Sciver-Brunt?
