Year 1 Curriculum Overview (Spring Term)
This Spring term, we have the whole school focus on ‘Our Community’. For the first half term we will explore ‘Refugees’. The children will learn some very interesting elements,
which include equality, fairness, refugees and homes. We will be researching the refugees: Jesus and Rita Ora and how their lives were affected by this. In Geography we will focus on
the journey from Kosovo to the UK linking this to Rita Ora and in computing we will create our very own Kosovo town and programme a string of instructions to move the Bee Bot around it!
There are many books we will be reading and studying. We will particularly focus on the text ‘Beegu’ in literacy to help the children consider the topic of social justice.
In the second half of Spring we will move onto ‘STEAM’. In DT we will be creating mechanisms, exploring sliders and movement through making a moving story book and in
Art we will be exploring painting and mixed media as well as painting through the use of print. Whilst in Science we will be learning all about our sensitive bodies, naming body parts
as well as our senses and how they help us.
