At St. Bridget’s, our vision for Design and Technology is to inspire creativity, innovation, and a deep understanding of the design process. Throughout their journey with us, our children will develop significant levels of originality and the confidence to take creative risks. They will be encouraged to generate innovative ideas and prototypes that reflect their unique thinking and problem-solving abilities.
We aim to foster an excellent attitude to learning, promoting independence alongside the ability to work efficiently and collaboratively. Our pupils will learn to manage their time effectively and engage constructively with others, developing strong teamwork and communication skills.
Children will be taught to carry out thorough research, show initiative, and ask thoughtful questions to gain a detailed understanding of users’ needs. This user-focused approach supports the development of meaningful, purposeful design solutions.
Responsibility is central to our DT vision. Pupils will be guided to act as ethical designers and makers, considering sustainability by using finite materials carefully and working safely at all times. They will gain a thorough knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials, enabling them to make informed choices when creating their products.
Mathematics will be embedded throughout the design and making process, supporting precise measurement, scale, and technical thinking. In addition, children will learn to manage risks exceptionally well, ensuring products are manufactured safely and hygienically.
Finally, we aim to instil a passion for the subject. Pupils will develop curiosity and knowledge of up-to-date technological innovations in materials, products, and systems—preparing them to engage confidently with the ever-evolving world of design and technology.
